OUR YOUTH LEAGUE
The Youth Ball Hockey in Medicine Hat started in 2007 with a total of 4 teams playing in one level of play. Since that first year, youth ball hockey has grown quite a bit, and so have the age levels of play. Today, our league has over 24 youth teams for kids aged 5 to 17 years old. No matter what your child’s skill level may be, there is a place for everyone to play the great game of ball hockey in our league! Some players, who began with our youth league in 2007, have already graduated to the men’s league. We promote kids playing the game most of us grew up playing in the streets, just more organized and no cars. Teams are assembled with parity between teams in each division as our ultimate goal. The Hat Ball Hockey League in Medicine Hat is about Fun, Fitness and Fair play.
AGE LEVELS & DIVISIONS
In the Youth League, we have several divisions of play. Our age levels are as follows, keeping in mind that the child’s age as of January 1st of the current year (new) is what we go by:
- U-17 Ages 15-16-17 Years old
- U-14 Ages 13-14 Year old
- U-12 Ages 11-12 Year old
- U-10 Ages 9-10 Year old
- U-8 Ages 5-6-7-8 Year old
OUR SEASON & THE GAMES
The 2012 season will start in early April, and will end on the last weekend in June. The season consists of a 14-game regular season, and all teams make playoffs …each team is guaranteed at least 1 playoff game. Players can expect to play 3 games every 2 weeks, and the league does not schedule practices. Most of the games will be played on Saturdays, starting at 9:00am and ending around 7:00pm. All Saturday games will be played out of the Hockey Hounds Arena. The other few games will be played out of the Kinplex and the Moose on Sunday's and some weeknights. Weeknight games start at 5:45pm on weeknights and can end at 10:15pm for the older age groups. Youth Ball Hockey takes the May long weekend off to give all of us a chance to enjoy a weekend away from the rink.
WHERE WE PLAY
The Hockey Hounds floor has been upgraded for ball hockey use and we will be playing most of our ball hockey out of this facility. Our Youth League also plays some our games out of 3 other arenas located in Medicine Hat.

EQUIPMENT
The following is a list of mandatory and recommended equipment for ball hockey:
- Pair of running shoes (surface is a smooth concrete floor)
- C.S.A. approved Helmet with full facemask
- Hockey stick ( plastic blade sticks are not allowed)
- Soccer type shin guards covered by sock (Mandatory for 2012)
- Hockey Gloves
- Goalies wear full equipment, Street hockey equipment accepted, helmets must be CSA Approved
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
- Groin protection (Boys can or a Girls Jill)
- Elbow pads
- Shorts
- Water bottle is a good idea …it gets hot playing indoors in the summer
